NATIONAL CHERRY BLOSSOM FESTIVAL
SPRING CELEBRATIONS MARCH 20 – APRIL 12, 2026
Four weeks of primarily free and open-to-the-public events in Washington, D.C., filled with art,
culture, food and fun
WASHINGTON (Jan. 20, 2026) — The National Cherry Blossom Festival, one of the world’s
greatest celebrations of spring, will make its return to the Nation's Capital from March 20 to
April 12, 2026.
The eagerly-awaited Festival is anchored by five weekends of events filled with art, culture and
food, celebrating the world-famous cherry blossoms. Most events are free, open to the public,
and welcoming to all ages.
The Festival commemorates the gift of cherry trees from Japan in 1912, symbolizing the
longstanding international friendship between the US and Japan. The Festival draws 1.6 million
attendees to Washington, D.C.
“For many visitors, the Festival sets the tone for a spring trip — a chance to experience
Washington at its most photogenic and joyful,” said Diana Mayhew, president and CEO of the
National Cherry Blossom Festival. “Whether you’re planning a weekend escape or a milestone
trip, the month-long event offers moments that feel both intimate and distinctly D.C. It’s the
kind of unique and bucket-list experience travelers plan around.”
The Festival is made possible by several supporters, including the 2026 Leadership Circle
Sponsors Events DC and ANA, All Nippon Airways.
